Four appointed to Board of Certified Court Reporters

The Mississippi Supreme Court has appointed two new members to the Board of Certified Court Reporters and reappointed two members

New appointees are freelance court reporter Kati Vogt of Biloxi and attorney Latanya Allen of Madison. Vogt, who has been a certified court reporter in Mississippi for more than 22 years, was nominated by the Mississippi Court Reporters Association. Allen was nominated by the Mississippi Bar. Allen served as a court administrator for the 11th Chancery District for two years, then as an official court reporter for the 11th Chancery for five years. She is former president of the Mississippi Court Reporters Association.

Presiding Justice Leslie D. King of Greenville, chairman of the Board of Certified Court Reporters, was reappointed on the recommendation of his colleagues on the Supreme Court. Julie Mims of Oxford, official court reporter of the 17th Circuit Court, was renominated by the Mississippi Court Reporters Association. Mims has been a certified court reporter for 26 years.

Chief Justice Mike Randolph signed the appointment order on June 24.All new terms on the Board are for two years, ending June 30, 2024.

The Board of Certified Court Reporters was created by the Mississippi Legislature to oversee the licensing of certified court reporters and the granting of temporary permission to noncertified and nonresident court reporters. The Board is responsible for administering the examination for certification of court reporters, and has jurisdiction over discipline of court reporters. Mississippi currently has 282 licensed court reporters, including 21 who live in surrounding states and have nonresident temporary licenses.

The nine-member board includes two official court reporters for judicial districts, two freelance court reporters, two judges, two attorneys and the Clerk of the Mississippi Supreme Court.
